Leon Edel, biographer, editor, critic (b at Pittsburgh, Pa 9 Sept 1907; d at Honolulu, Hawaii 5 Sept 1997). Edel's 5-volume life of Henry James, which appeared between 1953 and 1972, is one of the major literary biographies of its time.

Francis Bain, geologist, ornithologist, botanist, author, artist (b at Charlottetown 25 Feb 1842; d at York Point, PEI 23 Nov 1894). Bain, a self-educated farmer, was an authority on Prince Edward Island rocks, FOSSILS and natural history.

Ethel Catherwood, track and field athlete (b in Hannah, North Dakota 28 Apr 1908; d Grass Valley, California 26 Sept 1987). Ethel Catherwood was the only Canadian woman ever to win an individual gold medal in Olympic track and

Gérard Picard, labour leader, (born at Stratford-Centre, Qué 27 May 1907, died at Montréal, 19 Jun 1980). After completing a law degree at Laval, he was a journalist for L'Événement and L'Action catholique in Québec City during the early 1930s.

Mari-Elizabeth Morgen. Pianist, b Kitchener, Ont, 11 Dec 1944; ARCT 1962, Artist Diploma (Toronto) 1967, B MUS (Juilliard) 1970, M SC (Juilliard) 1971. She was a pupil of Gordon Hallett at the RCMT.

Richard Edmund Prince, sculptor (b at Comox, BC 6 Apr 1949). Prince has been making sculpture since his studies at the University of British Columbia (BA 1971).

Robert Duer Claydon Finch, poet, scholar (b at Freeport, Long Island, NY 14 May 1900; d at Toronto 11 June 1995). Robert Finch was educated at University College, University of Toronto, and the Sorbonne, Paris. He was a professor of French at the University of Toronto for four decades, 1928-68.

Arthur James Marshall Smith, poet, critic, anthologist (b at Montréal 8 Nov 1902; d at East Lansing, Mich 21 Nov 1980). A.J.M. Smith was educated at McGill University and the University of Edinburgh.

Gerald Augustine Regan, lawyer, politician, premier of NS (b at Windsor, NS 13 Feb 1928). He was elected MP in 1963 and leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in 1965.

Frederick Augustus Dixon, playwright, journalist, civil servant (b at London, Eng 7 May 1843; d at Ottawa 12 Jan 1919). Educated at King's School, Canterbury, he came to Canada in the 1870s and worked as a journalist in Toronto.

Yves Chartier. Musicologist, teacher, b Thetford-les-Mines Que, 18 Aug 1942; Lauréat AMQ piano 1959, BA french, latin (Ottawa) 1964, MA classics (Ottawa) 1965, Docteur en musicologie (Paris-Sorbonne) 1973. He began teaching at Ottawa U in 1969.

Norman Antony Onley, "Toni," painter (b at Douglas, Isle of Man, UK 20 Nov 1928; d near Maple Ridge, BC, 29 Feb 2004). Onley received his early art training in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and also became an apprentice to a local architect.

Caroline Cochrane, Métis politician, social worker, premier of the Northwest Territories (born 5 December 1960 in Flin Flon, MB). Cochrane became the MLA for Range Lake, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT) in 2015. In October 2019, she became the second female premier of the NWT. As of 2019, she is Canada’s only female premier.

Victor Schultz. Violinist, b Winnipeg 3 Jun 1959. He began his musical studies in Winnipeg at seven with Jeanette and Marilyn Slipetz, and was a pupil of Francis Chaplin 1969-71.
