Gifford (Jerome) Mitchell. Educator, organist, choir director, b Cobden, Renfrew County, Ont, 29 Apr 1913, d 3 Dec 2006; BA (McGill) 1934, B MUS (Toronto) 1948. He taught history and languages in Westmount, Que, after graduating from McGill University.

David Harry Walker, army officer, novelist (b at Dundee, Scot 9 Feb 1911; d 5 March 1992). Raised in Scotland and England, Walker was aide-de-camp to Canadian Gov Gen John BUCHAN 1938-39, a POW in Europe 1940-45, and comptroller to the viceroy of India 1946-47.

James Nathaniel Simpkins, cartoonist (born 26 November 1910 in Winnipeg, MB; died 1 February 2004 in Dundas, ON). Simpkins was the creator of "Jasper The Bear," a regular cartoon feature of Maclean's magazine for 24 years and the mascot of the national park community of the same name in Alberta.

John McCrae, soldier, physician, poet (born 30 November 1872 in Guelph, ON; died 28 January 1918 in Wimereux, France). A noted pathologist and army physician, Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae was also a poet; he wrote “In Flanders Fields” — one of the most famous poems of the First World War.

Margaret MacLeod (b Arnett). Historian, collector, b Kerwood, west of London, Ont, 1877, d Winnipeg 17 Feb 1966. Educated in Brandon, Man, and Winnipeg, she devoted herself to researching the social history of Manitoba and especially of the Red River Valley.

John Dickerson "Jackie" Parker, football player (b at Knoxville, Tennessee (US) 1 January 1932; d at Edmonton, Alta 7 Nov 2006). Nicknamed "Ol' Spaghetti Legs," Jackie Parker is considered to be the most successful player in the CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE's history.

Georges Lemay, criminal (born 25 January 1925 in Shawinigan, QC; died December 2006 in Montréal, QC). Lemay was the mastermind behind one of the biggest bank robberies in Canadian history – the Bank of Nova Scotia heist in Montréal in 1961.

John Murray Gibbon, writer, publicist, marketer, translator (born 12 April 1875 in Udeweller, Ceylon; died 2 July 1952 in Montréal, QC).

Mi’k ai’stoowa, also known as Red Crow, warrior, peacemaker, Kainai (Blood) leader (born ca. 1830 near the junction of St. Mary’s and Oldman rivers, AB; died 28 August 1900 near the Belly River on the Kainai reserve, AB). Head chief of the Kainai, Mi’k ai’stoowa was a skilled negotiator and passionate advocate for his people. Mi’k ai’stoowa sought improved conditions for the Kainai in the wake of monumental changes amid the decline of the bison in traditional territories in the 1860s and 1870s, the encroachment of European settlers and the disastrous effects of smallpox epidemics.
