James Michael Norcop, administrator, baritone (born 29 September 1930 in Oxnard, California). James Norcop came to Canada in 1965 to manage the Vancouver Opera and began a long career developing and mentoring young talent. He moved to Toronto in 1967 to work with the Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Federation of Symphony Orchestras, and served as the founding executive director of Coordinated Arts Services. He stablished two awards at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and is a founding board member of the Art Song Foundation of Canada. The Concours musical international de Montréal established the $50,000 'James Norcop' Career Development Grant in his honour.

Max (Gabriel) Pirani. Pianist, teacher, b Melbourne 4 Aug 1898, d London 5 Aug 1975. His studies at the Melbourne Cons and later with Max Vogrich in New York preceded the formation (1923) of the Pirani Trio with the violinist Leila Doubleday (later Pirani) and the cellist Charles Hambourg.

George (Alfred) Proctor. Musicologist, teacher, administrator, violinist, b Toronto 13 May 1931, d London, Ont, 5 Dec 1985; ARCT 1950, BA (McMaster) 1952, M MUS (ESM, Rochester) 1956, PH D (ESM, Rochester) 1960. He was a pupil of John A. Montague and Kathleen Parlow at the RCMT.

William (Willy or Willi) Amtmann. Historian, violinist, b Vienna 10 Aug 1910, d Ottawa 22 Jul 1996; B MUS (Toronto) 1950, M MUS (ESM, Rochester) 1952, D LITT musicology (Strasbourg) 1956. He received a diploma after studying 1924-30 at the Vienna Academy of Music and arrived in Canada in 1940.

(John) Otto Armin. Violinist, teacher, b Winnipeg 22 May 1943. He studied 1946-54 with his father, Jay, 1954-61 with Carl Chase in Detroit, 1962-4 with Josef Gingold at Indiana University, and 1967-70 with Lorand Fenyves in Toronto.

André-Sébastien Savoie. Pianist, accompanist, coach, teacher, b Montreal 25 Jul 1935. At first a pupil of Charles Reiner, André-Sébastien Savoie continued his studies 1952-8 at the McGill Conservatory.

Yaron Ross. Pianist, teacher, b Tel-Aviv 28 Apr 1950, naturalized Canadian 1986; BA (Tel-Aviv) 1975, Artist Diploma (Tel-Aviv) 1977, D MUS (Montreal) 1994.

(Marie Berthe) Rolande Dion. Soprano, teacher, b Quebec City 5 Apr 1915, d there 19 Nov 1980. She studied singing in her native city 1931-5 with Émile Larochelle and 1935-9 with Louis Gravel.

Joseph-Élie Savaria. Organist, teacher, b Lachine, near Montreal, 16 Dec 1886, d Montreal 4 Oct 1973; lauréat (AMQ) 1903. He studied piano, solfège, and harmony with Jean-Noël Charbonneau.

Céline (also known as Célina, Célinie, Célanie) Marier. Soprano, teacher, b Montreal 17 May 1871?, d there 4 May 1940.

Marya Fiamengo, poet, critic and educator (b at Vancouver 24 Oct 1926).

Francis William Schofield, veterinarian, teacher, researcher (b at Rugby, Eng 15 Mar 1889; d at Seoul, S Korea 12 Apr 1970). Schofield joined the faculty of the Ontario Veterinary Coll in 1910. He was a teacher and missionary in Korea 1916-19, and returned there in 1955 at retirement.

Peter Paul Koprowski, composer, professor, pianist (b at Lodz, Poland 24 August 1947).

Robert Rumilly, nationalist historian (b in Martinique 1897; d at Montréal 8 Mar 1983). In an amazing series of 42 volumes, Rumilly set forth the history of Québec from 1867 to the present.

John Meisel, educator, public servant (b at Vienna, Austria 23 Oct 1923). He is known to academics as a leading student of Canadian politics and to the public as chairman of the CANADIAN RADIO-TELEVISION AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (CRTC).

Eliza Ritchie, educator, feminist (b at Halifax 20 May 1856; d there 5 Sept 1933). Ritchie graduated from Dalhousie in 1887 and 2 years later obtained her PhD from Cornell, probably the first Canadian woman to secure a doctorate.

Robin Skelton, poet, critic, publisher, artist, educator (b at Easington, East Yorkshire, Eng 12 Oct 1925; d at Victoria, BC 22 Aug 1997).

Robert Bruce Salter, CC, OOnt, FRSC, orthopedic surgeon, university professor (born 15 December 1924 in Stratford, ON; died 10 May 2010 in Toronto, ON). One of the most respected and best-known orthopedic surgeons in the world, Salter lectured in 35 countries and was recognized for innovative methods of orthopedic treatment, including the Salter operation for children and young adults with abnormal hip joints.

Charles Augustus Semlin, schoolteacher, prospector, rancher, premier of BC 1898-1900 (b at Barrie, UC Oct 1836; d at Ashcroft, BC 3 Nov 1927). After teaching in Barrie, Semlin came to BC in 1862, buying the Dominion Ranch in 1869. Elected Conservative MLA for Yale in 1871, he was defeated in 1875.

Roger Yate Stanier, microbiologist, professor (b at Victoria, BC 22 Oct 1916; d at Paris, Fra 29 Jan 1982).
