Create AccountIan Willoughby Bazalgette, VC, DFC, pilot and master bomber (born 19 October 1918 in Calgary, Alberta; died 4 August 1944 near Senantes, France). Bazalgette died after his plane was hit during a bombing mission over occupied France during the Second World War. He was posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross (VC) in August 1945.
Alan Arnett McLeod, VC, pilot (born 20 April 1899 in Stonewall, MB; died 6 November 1918 in Winnipeg, MB). During the First World War, McLeod was awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for his heroic actions during and after an aerial battle with enemy fighters. He died shortly after returning to Canada, a victim of the 1918 influenza pandemic that claimed the lives of millions worldwide, including some 50,000 Canadians.
Andrew Charles Mynarski, airman, Victoria Cross recipient (b at Winnipeg 14 Oct 1916; d at Cambrai, France 13 June 1944). Mynarski was the mid-upper gunner of a Lancaster bomber that was shot down by a German aircraft.

Joy Loveridge enlisted with the British Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) in 1939, weeks after the Second World War was declared. She served as a clerk at RAF Station Debden, in Essex, England during the Battle of Britain and the station was frequently bombed. She met her husband Doug, a navigator with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). She resigned from the WAAF to go with him to Canada. She then joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) when Doug was posted back to England. She returned to work in London, where she found out that Doug's aircraft had been shot down and he was missing in action. She learned after Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day) 1945 that he had been a prisoner-of-war. Reunited, they returned to Canada in 1946.
