Sir Donald Mann, railway builder (b at Acton, Canada W 23 Mar 1853; d at Toronto 10 Nov 1934). Mann studied for the Methodist ministry but took up work in the lumber camps of Ontario and Michigan. In 1879 he was in charge of the barge that brought the first railway locomotive to Winnipeg.

James Armstrong Richardson, Sr, merchant, financier (b at Kingston, Ont 21 Aug 1885; d in Winnipeg 27 June 1939). Educated at Queen's, in 1906 Richardson entered the family firm of James Richardson and Sons Ltd, grain exporters, becoming VP in 1912 and president in 1919.

Clifford William Robinson, lawyer, businessman, premier of NB 1907-08 (b at Moncton, NB 1 Sept 1866; d at Montréal 27 July 1944). In 1897 Robinson was elected mayor of Moncton and a member of the provincial Assembly.

Peter Robinson, merchant, developer, immigration superintendent (b in NB 1785; d at Toronto 8 July 1838). Until 1822 he was active in the development of Yonge St in the Newmarket and Holland Landing area.

Thomas F. Ryan, businessman, sports promoter (b at Guelph, Ont 1872; d at Toronto 19 Nov 1961). He introduced the first 10-pin BOWLING alley in Canada and attracted many prominent businessmen and professionals to his downtown Toronto facility.

William Macdonald Sobey, executive (b at New Glasgow, NS 9 June 1927; d at Salt Lake City, Utah 29 May 1989). As chairman of the board of Sobeys Stores Ltd, he continued the family control of the Nova Scotia-based chain of food stores founded in 1907 by his grandfather, John William Sobey.

Harold Greville Smith, industrialist (b at Sheffield, Eng 25 Jan 1902; d at Montréal 19 Feb 1974). After graduating from Oxford, Smith was hired by a chemical firm later absorbed by Imperial Chemical Industries.

Charles Fleetford Sise, businessman (b at Portsmouth, NH 27 Sept 1834; d at Montréal 9 Apr 1918). Before coming to Canada, Sise had careers as a sea captain, as owner of shipping businesses and as an insurance executive.

Maurice Frederick Strong, PC, CC, OM, LLD, FRSC, environmentalist, statesman, business administrator (born 29 April 1929 in Oak Lake, MB; died 27 November 2015).

Roy Herbert Thomson, Baron Thomson of Fleet, newspaper tycoon (b at Toronto 5 Jun 1894; d at London, Eng 4 Aug 1976).

Herbert James Symington, lawyer, executive (b at Sarnia, Ont 22 Nov 1881; d at Montréal 28 Sept 1965). Symington, admitted to the Manitoba Bar in 1905, became a prominent corporation lawyer and a notable figure in Winnipeg public affairs.

Samuel Steinberg, grocer (b in Hungary 1905; d at Montréal 24 May 1978). In 1909 the Steinberg family immigrated to Canada and established a small grocery store in Montréal. Samuel and his 4 brothers began working in it in 1917 and turned it into one of Canada's largest supermarket chains.

George Stephen, 1st Baron Mount Stephen, banker, railway president (b at Dufftown, Scot 5 June 1829; d at Hatfield, Eng 29 Nov 1921). Stephen has been described as the person most responsible for the success of the CANADIAN PACIFIC RY.

Irene Mary Spry (née Biss), economic historian (born 28 August 1907 in Standerton, Transvaal, South Africa; died 16 December 1998 in Ottawa, ON).

George Lawrence Stewart, business executive (b at Winnipeg 2 Dec 1890; d at Toronto 21 Mar 1985). Graduating in engineering from McGill in 1914, he served on McGill's engineering faculty for 2 years before joining Imperial Oil at its Sarnia, Ont, refinery as a draughtsman.
