Roger D'Astous, architect (b at Montréal, Que 3 March 1926; d at Montréal, Que 5 April 1998). A graduate of the Montréal School of Fine Arts in 1952, he went on to win a Taliesin Fellowship, spending from August 1952 to July 1953 in the studios of Frank Lloyd Wright in Wisconsin and Arizona.

Beth Powning, writer, photographer (b at Putnam, Connecticut 15 Aug 1949). Powning majored in creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. She moved to an old farm near Sussex, New Brunswick in 1972, where she ran a pottery business with her husband, artist and photographer Peter Powning.

Roberta Rich, novelist (born at Buffalo, New York, USA, 9 Jan 1946). Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Rich settled briefly in Rochester, New York before immigrating to Canada in the 1960s with her first husband, who had a job teaching at the UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY.

Jeff Wall is internationally renowned for his large, complex, back-lit photographs which address a variety of issues, including the circumstances of Indigenous peoples in Vancouver. Academically trained in art history, Wall is the best known member of a group of artists that has come to be known as the Vancouver School.

Tanya Tagaq Gillis, CM, throat singer, experimental musician, painter, novelist (born 5 May 1975 in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut). An experimental artist who has achieved a level of mainstream crossover success, Tanya Tagaq blends Inuit throat singing (traditionally done as a duet) with electronic, classical, punk and rock music. The New Yorker characterized Tagaq’s voice as, “guttural heaves, juddering howls and murderous shrieks,” and praised her work for its “fearless lack of inhibition, technical skill and mastery of tradition.”  A Juno Award, Canadian Aboriginal Music Award and Polaris Music Prize winner, Tagaq is part of what has been called the “Indigenous Music Renaissance” — an innovative new generation of Indigenous artists in Canada. She is also an acclaimed author and a Member of the Order of Canada.

Paul (Gerard) Woodford. Historian, teacher, conductor, b St John's, Nfld, 6 Apr 1955; B MUS music education (Toronto) 1977, B ED (Toronto) 1978, M MUS music education (Western) 1983.

Rosario Bayeur. Violin maker, b St-Paulin-de-Maskinongé, near Trois-Rivières, Que, 21 Aug 1875, d Montreal 1 Jun 1944. He worked first as a cabinet-maker.

Carl Ray, Cree artist, illustrator, editor and art teacher (born January 1943 in Sandy Lake, ON; died 26 September 1978 in Sioux Lookout, ON). Ray was known for his innovative paintings in the Woodlands style and was a founding member of the Indian Group of Seven. Ray’s work has influenced Indigenous art in Canada and can be found in the collections of various galleries and museums across the country.

Arion Male Voice Choir. Possibly Canada's oldest existing male choir devoted to the singing of secular music. It was founded in February 1893 (with initial, informal activities beginning in 1892) as the Arion Club of Victoria (BC) and gave its first concert 17 May 1893 at Institute Hall.

Jean Marc Dalpé, playwright, poet, novelist, translator, scriptwriter and actor (b at Ottawa, 21 Feb 1957). Dalpé received his BA in theatre arts from the University of Ottawa in 1976, and his graduate diploma from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec in 1979.

Frances Itani, novelist, short story writer, poet (b at Belleville, Ont 25 Aug 1942). After studying, practising and teaching nursing for a number of years, Frances Itani took a creative writing course with W. O. MITCHELL and decided to take up writing full time.
