Karel ten Hoope

Karel (Joseph) ten Hoope. Organiste, chef de choeur, critique, compositeur (Amsterdam, 28 mai 1917 - White Rock, C.-B., 20 août 2012, naturalisé canadien 1958). Il étudia au Cons. d'Amsterdam et à l'Instituut voor Katholieke Kerkmuziek, à Utrecht. Il émigra au Canada en 1951 et étudia la composition à Vancouver avec Robert Turner. Il se fixa ensuite à New Westminster, C.-B., où il fonda deux chorales, The Karellers (1955-63) et la Handel Society of Music (1966 -) qui se déplaça avec lui quand il s'établit à White Rock, C.-B., en 1987. À Vancouver, il dirigea la Chorale Bach (1961-65) et fut dir. mus. de la cathédrale Holy Rosary (1969-87). à White Rock, il fut o. m. c. à l'église catholique Star of the Sea. Il fut critique musical pour The Columbian à New Westminster (1954-74) et pour le Peace Arch News à White Rock (1987 -). Beaucoup de ses compositions ont été écrites pour la cathédrale et incluent sept messes, quatre chants nuptiaux et plusieurs motets. Empire a publié Proper of the Mass, Mass I for the People et Mass II for the People en 1966. Une Mass III, inédite, fut composée pour la congrégation, comme les deux premières. Ten Hoope a adapté des textes liturgiques au chant grégorien et a composé des motets, dont « Hail Mary, Star of the Sea », pour l'église de White Rock.
