Hugh French

Hugh French is an earth scientist who conducted research in the cold, non-glacial regions of the world for over 45 years. Between 1967 and 2003 he taught at the University of Ottawa in the Departments of Geography, Geology and Earth Sciences and was dean of the Faculty of Sciences. He was president of the International Permafrost Association from 1998 to 2003, and editor-in-chief of Permafrost and Periglacial Processes from 1990 to 2005. He is the author of The Periglacial Environment and is now professor emeritus, University of Ottawa, and adjunct professor, University of Victoria.
