George Knudson

George Knudson, golfer (b at Winnipeg 28 June 1937; d at Toronto 24 Jan 1989). Knudson was introduced to golf as a teenager at St Charles Country Club, Winnipeg, and later moved to Toronto. Fascinated with the golf swing, he was determined to make his reliable and efficient. He became known as a superior ball-striker and, turning professional in 1958, won 8 events on the US tour. In 1968 he won consecutive events in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz, and in 1969 finished 2nd by a stroke in the prestigious Masters.

In 1988 Knudson published The Natural Golf Swing, an instructional book that outlined the mechanics of his swing, thought by many to be the finest swing in golf. He made a brief return to the professional game on the US Senior PGA Tour before succumbing to cancer. He was a member of the Order of Canada.
