Pierre Dubois Davaugour, Baron, governor of New France 1661-63 (d fighting the Turks on the border of Croatia 24 July 1664). Davaugour was the last governor to serve the COMPAGNIE DES CENT-ASSOCIÉS. He was enthusiastic about Canada's potential but insisted on the need for massive reinforcements to protect it from the Iroquois. When he removed restrictions on the brandy trade with the Indians, Davaugour became embroiled in bitter disputes with Bishop LAVAL and with MAISONNEUVE, the governor of Montréal, which led to his recall.
