Sir James MacPherson LeMoine, folklorist, historian, ornithologist (b at Québec City 24 Jan 1825; d there 5 Feb 1912). Half Scots and half French Canadian, LeMoine was proficient in both English and French and wrote extensively on contemporary and historical Québec.

Sir James MacPherson LeMoine, folklorist, historian, ornithologist (b at Québec City 24 Jan 1825; d there 5 Feb 1912). Half Scots and half French Canadian, LeMoine was proficient in both English and French and wrote extensively on contemporary and historical Québec. He grew up on the Ile aux Grues seigneurie of his grandfather Daniel MacPherson, was educated at the Séminaire de Québec, and was called to the bar in 1850. He was a charter member of the Royal Society of Canada (and president 1894-95). The sketches of "Château Bigot" and "The Golden Dog" from his series Maple Leaves (7 vols 1863-1906) formed the basis for William KIRBY's novel TheGOLDEN DOG (1877). He was knighted in 1897.
