Odette de Foras. Soprano, teacher, b Savoie, France, ca 1895, d Calgary 31 Dec 1976 or 1 Jan 1977. She spent her youth in Paris and at the Château de Thuyset, near Lake Geneva. With her family, she settled ca 1903 in High River, south of Calgary.

Judith (Anne) Fraser. Cellist, teacher, b Calgary 17 Sep 1934. She began to study cello at 10, working with Mary Short in Calgary and, after 1949, with Audrey Piggott in Vancouver.

(Marie) Andrée (Carmen) Desautels, CM, instrumentalist, musicologist, teacher (born 9 October 1923 in Montreal, QC). Andrée Desautels taught the history of music and musicology at the Connservatoire de musique du Quebec (CMM) from 1949 to 1988. She also taught at the Université de Montréal, the École Vincent-d’Indy, and the international Sessions of the Château d’Argenteuil in Brussels, Belgium, and is credited with introducing the ondes Martenot to Canada. She was also active in Youth and Music Canada (JMC) and was responsible for programming the organization’s performances at Expo 67. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada for being “the first Francophone to write about music in Canada” and for “pav[ing] the way for many researchers in this field.”

Gladys (Alma) Egbert (b McKelvie). Piano teacher, b Rapid City, near Brandon, Man, 31 Dec 1896, d Calgary 7 Mar 1968; honorary FRAM 1936, honorary LLD (Alberta) 1965. Her family moved to Calgary in 1903 and she began piano study with Ada Dowling Costigan.

Adrienne Labelle. Soprano, teacher, b Montreal, fl 1904-10. She studied voice with her father, Charles, and Céline Marier and piano with Alexis Contant and Émery Lavigne. She completed her voice studies in 1903 with Auguste-Jean Dubulle in Paris.

Yolande Villemaire, teacher, writer (b at St-Augustin-des-Deux-Montagnes, Qué 28 Aug 1949). After studying dramatic arts at UQAM, where she received her BA (1970) and MA (1974), she taught creative literature at the Rosemont CEGEP.

(Jeanne Mathilde) Marguerite Pâquet. Contralto, teacher, b Quebec City 10 Nov 1916, d there 29 Nov 1981; B MUS (Laval) 1939. She began to study voice with Sister Saint-Jean-de-l'Eucharistie at the Collège Jésus-Marie de Sillery and at the same time performed as a soloist at St-Dominique Church.

(Rose) Lynn Whidden. Ethnomusicologist, teacher, b Carnduff, Sask, 14 Jan 1946; BA (Manitoba) 1967, B MUS (Manitoba) 1969, M MUS (Minnesota) 1977, PH D (Montreal) 1987. She did graduate work in music, anthropology, and folklore.
