Diamonds of Canada, mined by Jacques Cartier's men at the mouth of Rivière du Cap-Rouge in 1541. Cartier's "treasure" proved to be worthless quartz. The episode is remembered in the name of Québec's Cap aux Diamants and also in the French saying, "As false as Canadian diamonds."
