Little Red River Cree Nation

Little Red River Cree Nation (LRRCN) at John D’Or Prairie is located about 130 km east of High Level, Alberta. It is made up of three Woodland Cree communities: John D’Or Prairie, Garden River (lies within Wood Buffalo National Park) and Fox Lake, where the bulk of the population lives but does not have year-round access by road. As of February 2022, the registered population of Little Red River Cree Nation was 6,166 with the majority of the members living on-reserve (4,833).

The historical sites at LRRCN include a traditional meeting place that was converted into a Hudson’s Bay Company outpost and now serves as pilgrimage site.
