Olav Slaymaker

Olav Slaymaker is a Member of the Order of Canada and a professor emeritus of geography at the University of British Columbia. He has coauthored or edited more than 20 monographs and written more than 160 refereed papers. These publications reflect three different styles of work. First, for 40 years Slaymaker has pursued original field research on sediment systems in the Western Cordillera and the European Alps. This work has been strongly supported and enhanced by his stellar doctoral and postdoctoral students and international colleagues. Second, Slaymaker has produced papers and books summarizing trends in land use and environmental change in mountain regions. Third, he has edited monographs with invited international contributions on major environmental and geomorphological themes. Slaymaker is a former president of the Canadian Association of Geographers and the International Association of Geomorphologists.
