Lynn Coady, writer, editor, playwright, journalist (born 24 January 1970 in Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, NS). An acclaimed novelist and short story writer, Lynn Coady is an acute, often hilarious observer of the absurdities and indignities of everyday life in small town Canada.

Norman Antony Onley, "Toni," painter (b at Douglas, Isle of Man, UK 20 Nov 1928; d near Maple Ridge, BC, 29 Feb 2004). Onley received his early art training in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and also became an apprentice to a local architect.

Caroline Cochrane, Métis politician, social worker, premier of the Northwest Territories (born 5 December 1960 in Flin Flon, MB). Cochrane became the MLA for Range Lake, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT) in 2015. In October 2019, she became the second female premier of the NWT. As of 2019, she is Canada’s only female premier.

Victor Schultz. Violinist, b Winnipeg 3 Jun 1959. He began his musical studies in Winnipeg at seven with Jeanette and Marilyn Slipetz, and was a pupil of Francis Chaplin 1969-71.

Terri (b Terri Lynn Sauson) Clark. Singer-songwriter, guitarist, b Montréal 4 Aug 1968. Terri Clark's maternal grandparents, Montreal-based singers Ray and Betty Gauthier, were well-known on the Canadian country music circuit. Clark's mother Linda was a folk singer.

Erica Goodman. Harpist, b Toronto 19 Jan 1948.

During WWII John was sent to safety in Toronto. He entered Manchester University in 1946 and received his PhD in chemistry in 1952 on the basis of his work measuring the strengths of chemical bonds in compounds that have been subjected to very high temperatures.

Along with Colin Low, Kroitor directed UNIVERSE (1960), possibly the NFB's most honoured film.

Marcus Adeney. Cellist, writer, teacher, b London 1 Jul 1900, naturalized Canadian 1904, d Toronto 2 Mar 1998. As a child he studied violin with his mother, Ethelwyn Davies Adeney, a music teacher and a cousin of (Sir) Walford Davies. He began cello studies in Hamilton with J.

David Buchbinder, who holds dual citizenship, grew up in St. Louis, and began trumpet lessons with the principal trombone player of the St. Louis Symphony at the age of 7. When he was 9, his family moved to Toronto, and he did not resume lessons on the instrument until about 1979 with Freddie Stone.

Theodore (Paul) Baerg. Baritone, teacher, b Mountain Lake, Minn, 19 Dec 1952 of Canadian parents; B MUS (Wilfrid Laurier) 1977. As a student, Baerg sang in amateur church groups and in a quartet, the Gospel Minstrels, which toured Ontario and Manitoba.

Uri Mayer. Conductor, violist, born Tîrgu-Mures, Rumania, 4 Aug 1946, naturalized Canadian 1976; post-graduate diploma (Juilliard) 1970, Hon D MUS (Western Ontario) 2009.

Louise Penny, writer (born 1 July 1958 in Toronto, ON). Upon receiving her Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson Polytechnic in 1979, Louise Penny began a lengthy career as a radio host and journalist with the CBC.

Alexander Sheldon Wilson (born at Montréal, Que 1 Dec 1907; died at Hidalgo, Tex 9 Dec 1994). Alex Wilson was a sprinter who wore the Canadian colours in the 1928 and 1932 Summer Olympics in track and field.

A 6 time PAN AMERICAN medallist and 3 time OLYMPIC GAMES medallist, success began early for Heymans, who had won 30 national titles by the time she was 19.

Elizabeth Benson Guy. Soprano, born Halifax, NS, 7 Dec 1925; died Scarborough, ON, 8 Jul 2010. Raised in Bridgewater, NS, she studied first with her mother, Sarah Louise Anderson, a European-trained singer, and 1942-5 with Ernesto Vinci in Halifax.

Strachan lost his father when he was 14. He entered the University of Aberdeen at only 16 and supported his widowed mother through teaching.

Sven Börje Johansson, CM, choreographer, reindeer specialist (born in Säffle, Värmland, Sweden on 29 August 1924; died 17 October 2018 in Victoria, BC). Johansson participated in the Canadian Reindeer Project, the Geological Survey of Canada and founded the non-profit Discovery Dance Society.
