(Albert) Gerald Bales. Organist, choirmaster, composer, teacher, b Toronto 12 May 1919, d London, Ont, 4 Jul 2002; ATCM 1936, honorary FRCCO 1974. Taught first by his mother, he gave a piano recital at seven and an organ recital at 13.

(Charles William) Sherwood Robson. Educator, choir conductor, b Vancouver 27 May 1913; B ED (British Columbia) 1962. His teachers included John Goss (voice) and Frederic Staton (voice, choir training) in the early 1940s and Burton Kurth (voice, organ, piano) in the 1950s.

Tommy (Thomas Rundle) Reilly. Harmonica player, composer, teacher, b Guelph, Ont, 21 Aug 1919, d Frensham, Surrey, England, 25 Sep 2000. His father, Captain James Reilly (1886-1956), a trumpeter and violinist, led (in Guelph, 1920-5) one of the first jazz bands in Canada.

(Judith) Marilyn Engle. Pianist, teacher, b Calgary 27 Jul 1946; B MUS (Juilliard) 1969, M SC MUS (Juilliard) 1970, MA (New York) 1975. Marilyn Engle's piano studies in Calgary with Gladys Egbert and in New York with Ilona Kabos led to first prizes in the 1966 CBC Talent Festival and the 1969 J.S.

Rosabelle Jones (b Smith). Pianist, harpsichordist, librettist, teacher, b Truro, NS, 26 Jul 1922, d Dec 1995; Licentiate (Mount Allison Conservatory) 1942, B MUS (Mount Allison) 1946. Rosabelle Jones was a pupil of Max Pirani in Toronto in 1947 and Yvonne Lefebure in Paris in 1949.

Thomas C. Chattoe. Organist, choirmaster, teacher, b Stafford, England, 15 Sep 1890, d London, Ont, 27 Sep 1982; B MUS (Birmingham) 1931.

James Michael Norcop, administrator, baritone (born 29 September 1930 in Oxnard, California). James Norcop came to Canada in 1965 to manage the Vancouver Opera and began a long career developing and mentoring young talent. He moved to Toronto in 1967 to work with the Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Federation of Symphony Orchestras, and served as the founding executive director of Coordinated Arts Services. He stablished two awards at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and is a founding board member of the Art Song Foundation of Canada. The Concours musical international de Montréal established the $50,000 'James Norcop' Career Development Grant in his honour.

Max (Gabriel) Pirani. Pianist, teacher, b Melbourne 4 Aug 1898, d London 5 Aug 1975. His studies at the Melbourne Cons and later with Max Vogrich in New York preceded the formation (1923) of the Pirani Trio with the violinist Leila Doubleday (later Pirani) and the cellist Charles Hambourg.

George (Alfred) Proctor. Musicologist, teacher, administrator, violinist, b Toronto 13 May 1931, d London, Ont, 5 Dec 1985; ARCT 1950, BA (McMaster) 1952, M MUS (ESM, Rochester) 1956, PH D (ESM, Rochester) 1960. He was a pupil of John A. Montague and Kathleen Parlow at the RCMT.

William (Willy or Willi) Amtmann. Historian, violinist, b Vienna 10 Aug 1910, d Ottawa 22 Jul 1996; B MUS (Toronto) 1950, M MUS (ESM, Rochester) 1952, D LITT musicology (Strasbourg) 1956. He received a diploma after studying 1924-30 at the Vienna Academy of Music and arrived in Canada in 1940.

(John) Otto Armin. Violinist, teacher, b Winnipeg 22 May 1943. He studied 1946-54 with his father, Jay, 1954-61 with Carl Chase in Detroit, 1962-4 with Josef Gingold at Indiana University, and 1967-70 with Lorand Fenyves in Toronto.

André-Sébastien Savoie. Pianist, accompanist, coach, teacher, b Montreal 25 Jul 1935. At first a pupil of Charles Reiner, André-Sébastien Savoie continued his studies 1952-8 at the McGill Conservatory.
