Magdeleine Martin. Pianist, teacher, b Montreal 28 Aug 1921. She studied piano with her sister Gilberte and organ and harmony with Georges-Émile Tanguay. In 1943 she was admitted to the CMM; her teachers there were Isidor Philipp (piano) and Joseph Bonnet (organ).

Magdeleine Martin. Pianist, teacher, b Montreal 28 Aug 1921. She studied piano with her sister Gilberte and organ and harmony with Georges-Émile Tanguay. In 1943 she was admitted to the CMM; her teachers there were Isidor Philipp (piano) and Joseph Bonnet (organ). She studied 1948-53 at the Paris Conservatory and obtained several diplomas. Her subjects there were analysis with Olivier Messiaen, piano with Mme Bascourret de Gueraldi, theory with Simone Plé-Caussade, and musicology with Alexis Roland-Manuel and Marcel Beaufils. Upon her return she gave recitals on the CBC and on radio station CKAC. She taught history, analysis, and theory 1953-73 at the CMQ and theory 1973-84 at the CMM. Her pupils include Noëlla Genest, Pierre Genest, Nil Parent, and Paul-Émile Talbot.
