Vernon (Austin) Ellis. Educator, pianist, adjudicator, b Port Maitland, NS, 20 Jun 1930; B MUS (Acadia) 1952, M MUS (ESM, Rochester) 1960. After specializing in music education in his post-graduate studies, he taught 1952-8 at Middleton (NS) Regional High School, was music adviser 1958-9 to the Nova Scotia Dept of Education, and taught 1962-6 at Nova Scotia Teachers' College and 1966-74 at Dalhousie University. He was dean of music 1974-80 at Acadia University where he remained on the faculty in 1991. He taught the Kodály method 1980-1 in Australia at the Cons of New South Wales. He served as president 1961-3 of the NSMEA and 1969-71 of the CMEA. He served 1970-4 on the board of ISME and 1972-4 as chairman of its Canadian committee. Ellis has been active as an adjudicator.
