Ian Willoughby Bazalgette

Ian Willoughby Bazalgette, aviator (b at Calgary 19 Oct 1918; d in France 4 Aug 1944). He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 1943.

Ian Willoughby Bazalgette, aviator (b at Calgary 19 Oct 1918; d in France 4 Aug 1944). He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 1943. He was awarded the VICTORIA CROSS posthumously for a courageous attack on a target at Trossy St-Maxim, France, despite heavy anti-aircraft fire. He managed to land his crippled Lancaster bomber but perished in an explosion. In 1949 a mountain in Jasper National Park was named in his honour.
