Ian Willoughby Bazalgette
Ian Willoughby Bazalgette, aviator (b at Calgary 19 Oct 1918; d in France 4 Aug 1944). He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 1943. He was awarded the VICTORIA CROSS posthumously for a courageous attack on a target at Trossy St-Maxim, France, despite heavy anti-aircraft fire. He managed to land his crippled Lancaster bomber but perished in an explosion. In 1949 a mountain in Jasper National Park was named in his honour.
